Look for a company mark

When propane is delivered to you, look for its company mark. There should probably be a sticker that will identify the company which is servicing the tank. In case you don’t find a sticker or a mark on the outside, look inside the dome for something similar that gives you the name and number of the company, it lets you know who is familiar with your tank and LP Gas system. If you are living in a rented house, ask your landlord for information about the propane company servicing the tank. If you have just bought the home, get in touch with the propane company servicing the tank. Also, if you are having propane gas delivered for the first time, ask the delivery person to show you what it smells like. Ask about their automatic delivery system

You should ask the company if they offer automatic delivery. By doing so, you don’t have to worry about your tank going empty. Decide if you want to rent or buy the tank

Buying a tank can be expensive but it gives you the liberty to choose any company. However, if you don’t already own a tank or you don’t want to buy it ask the propane delivery company if they rent tanks. It will be convenient for you and the maintenance cost will be covered by the company. In case you do want to buy your own tank, make sure you buy it under warranty. 

Ask everything about the prices

Apart from the price of the fuel, ask if they charge any extra delivery or maintenance fees. Compare the prices of various companies so that you know what you have to pay and you don’t end up paying extra. Also, ask about their acceptable payment methods which might be checks, credit cards, money orders, debit cards and/or cash and choose what you prefer. Keep them informed

If you’re switching to propane, there are a few things you should inform the company about. You should inform us about any septic tank location. You should let us know about any overhead power lines for safety purposes. In case our delivery person is delivering at night, he may not be able to see low hanging overhead power lines which is highly risky. If the truck tank hits them, it might result in power loss. We should also be informed about any sprinkler systems. They can get damaged if the truck runs over them by chance.

Have a leak test performed

According to NFPA 54 (2006), 8.2.3 states, "Immediately after the gas is turned on into a new system or into a system that has been initially restored after an interruption of service, the piping system shall be tested for leakage. If leakage is indicated, the gas supply shall be shut off until the necessary repairs have been made". The leakage test involves simply the testing of the reliability of the system plumbing joints and the seal of the pipe joint compound. The test is conducted for safety measures and precautions and this is why the law demands a leak test, better safe than sorry.
